The evening was kicked off with local solo artist, David Lewis, who played an acoustic set while guests were treated to drinks and heavy appetizers. VIP guests were then invited to a private meet and greet with artist Nichols in the Foundation Room of the House of Blues.

Johnny ‘Bravo’ Holloway was the auctioneer of the evening and helped auction off 7 featured packages, including a date night package with a one-night stay at Hotel Zaza that also included earrings from Lugano Diamonds, a guitar signed on stage by Nichols that went for $7,000, dinner for 8 guests at Federal American Grill with a whiskey pairing that went for $10,000, while Federal owner Matt Brice, who was also in attendance, matched the earnings and donated another $10,000 himself. The live auction ended with a private 3-day management hunt at Sycamore Springs Ranch in Kerrville, Texas with Kendall Plank, donated by Susan and Mike Plank. The hunt sold three times for a total of $30,000.

Houston philanthropists and supporters among the 260 guests included Laurie and Tracy Krohn, Kristina Somerville, Denise and Monte Tinkham, Stacey and Al Lindseth, Brittney and Max Tribble and Founder and President of Dec My Room, Susan Plank with husband Mike.

Chairs Stacey and Al Lindseth and Tori Kuykendall hosted a pre-party Stock the Barrel event at Federal American Grill Hedwig to bring in remarkable wines and whiskeys that later became part of the silent auction for the night of Kick Up Your Boots for Kids.

Nonprofit surprises children with decorated hospital rooms

AUSTIN (KXAN) — No one wants to spend time in a hospital room, but if you have to, why not make it look like your room at home?

When Susan and Kendall Plank, who are the founders of Dec My Room, heard about a family friend going to the hospital, they wanted to help.

“We asked if we could decorate a room,” said Kendall.

They have now decorated hundreds of rooms across the nation over the past 15 years.

“It is incredibly rewarding for us,” said Susan. “We are just so happy. We always do quilts, make it as comfortable as possible, nice, comfy blankets.”

On Wednesday, they stopped by Dell Children’s Medical Center to decorate rooms.

“Everyone of them has been just a joy to be around,” said Kendall. “You see them lighten up, and everyone gets super excited, and it just makes a huge difference.”

Shaundrea Atkinson and her son Messiah have been in the hospital for two months.

“It is hard being away from home,” said Atkinson.

But when he saw his room with Spiderman decorations, he lit up.

“To see him when he walked in, and he was like ‘Spiderman!’” said Atkinson.

Dec My Room North Texas’ Room to Grow Luncheon and Fashion Presentation took place at The Neiman Marcus Courtyard at NorthPark Center on April 6, 2022.

After a two-year hiatus, the annual Room To Grow event took over the Neiman Marcus courtyard at NorthPark Centre with joyous energy. The attired matched the sentiment — bright neon, floral prints, and elegant heels filled the leafy space, dotted with elegant tables set for spring. Guests mingled, sipped a refreshing signature drink made with Mijenta tequila, and placed their bets on an expansive silent auction — which, naturally, included copious amounts of NorthPark gold.

Once seated, the Celebrate Flight Award was presented to Tina Mack in loving memory of her daughter Riley. In a sea of fashion and shopping-fueled frivolity, Mack’s words pulled the focus back to Dec My Room’s powerful mission: to create a healing space for children (and parents) who need it most.
